The turtles are in trouble !

When I was a little girl, my parents took my sister and I out of school for a few months and took us sailing around the Great Barrier Reef.  One of the most memorable islands we visited was Heron Island which is a natural coral cay, visited annually by great mamma turtles intent on laying their eggs.  The photo below shows this spectacular island which you can walk around in 20 minutes.  Click here for more information on Heron Island. While we were on the island some baby turtles had hatched and were being taken care of by an organization on the island helping these turtles reach adulthood.  Here is a photo below of my sister Cristi (the cute blonde one)...

Christmas list for island girls

Christmas looms closer and our shopping reaches a level of harried craziness.  Just shop shop shop to check those names off your Christmas list.... done. done. done. This Christmas I was trying to create a LIST for us island girls.... something that you can just forward to your love ones to say - "well I love all of them, or I love no.2 and 3" subtle hints to ensure you get things you like.   AND if you are not sure you will get anything you like, what I normally do is, buy a few things for myself and wrap them up.  The card reads "Dear Kim, thanks so much for everything you do.  Love Kim" and one gift a...

Nautical Jewelry LOVE

Being the social media snoop that I am, I came across this line of beautiful nautical jewelry which I just loved.  I started talking to the designer and we worked out a way that I could include her gorgeous jewelry on our website.  Click here to find it.  I had to know more about this talented lady, so I asked Jen to send me some photos of herself and her workspace to share with you guys "our island family".... what she sent me was just as adorable as her jewelry..... Introduce yourself: I’m Jen from Nautical Wheeler Jewelry and I handcraft nautical and beach inspired jewelry for mermaids and salty souls. Where do you work from? I work from home...

It's time for Summer Dresses

Living in Australia when most of my island friends are on US time zones, has its challenges for my business.  There are times when you guys email me while I am fast asleep, and must be left wondering why it takes me so long to respond, however today I realised that there is advantage to being on the other side of our planet..... I get to test run the entire island collection over Australia's HOT summer months, so that by the time summer arrives in USA, I know exactly which styles were my favourites.  Now we are well known for our pure cotton tunics that are soft and cool to wear, in beautiful island colors and coastal prints, but this...

Meet Lauren, my Wonder Woman

Lauren and her husband Steve had sailed extensively through the Caribbean islands in their early married life.  In fact they bought their first newborn baby Carley home to the boat in St.Lucia when she was only 2 weeks old.  Here is a photo of Lauren passing their tiny baby up to Steve on the bow of their boat.... can you even imagine what she said to him as she handed over such precious cargo? Lauren has so many amazing sailing photos of her young family, its hard to decide which ones to share, but I do love this one of her with baby Carley and a lobster that is bigger than the baby. I will never forget my first phone call...
