January .... you were a crazy month.

Have you ever sat in a "Caribbean style beach shack" and enjoyed the view while having a little dinner and an ice cold drink? Sun setting in the background.  That's what I was thinking when I designed our new booth for January's Surf Expo.... ok its missing the sand.  Wish you guys could have popped in for a cocktail with us. January was a busy month for me.... early in the month I did a quick trip all the way to Orlando FL USA for Surf Expo.  Now I don't normally come in January, but since September Surf Expo was cancelled due to Hurricane Dorian, I thought I better come over.  Back in August, I had designed a brand new booth, found a builder and got it...

Discovering "Kimisti" after 40 years

In the late 70's when I was a kid, we were sailing around the Whitsunday Islands on our family yacht "Kimisti" which was named after myself and my sister Cristi. Here I am sitting up near the mast on Kimisti, all those years ago.    I also love this old photo of my sister Cristi and I and our little sailing dog Cindy. At the time there were very few yachts cruising around the islands, but most of them painted their yacht name on the rocks in Nara Inlet.  There are yacht names painted everywhere in this anchorage, however nowadays of course this is illegal. Here are the photos from mum & dad's photo album. From this photo you can...

NEW compostable bags.... BUT you won't believe what I did !!

Well you guys know that I like to try to do the right thing.... all that plastic on our garments makes me feel ill, but with the shipments coming from India, and sitting in our warehouse, and then being shipped to you guys, I feel like I have no choice but to protect our island goodies from damage along the way.... Finally with all this talk about plastics, I did some research and discovered with horror, that the "biodegradable" plastics we have used for years.... is not actually that great either.  Did you realize that "biodegradable" just means that it doesn't necessarily "breakdown" it breaks UP into a gazillion tiny pieces.... yes tiny micro-plastics in our landfills, soils, oceans, and waterways....

My visit to the Opera House....

I was born an hour south of Sydney, and I have been on a whole lot of weird and wonderful adventures around the world.... but up until last weekend I had never been to the Sydney Opera House. My daughter's dance school organized a dance trip to Sydney and we went to see West Side Story at the Opera House. WOW, what a night to remember.... and I don't know what happened to my little boat baby, but all of a sudden she is wearing heels and trying to be taller than me. There we are on the dinghy in Bequia together one minute..... and in the blink of an eye.... this.... It was a special weekend away, but one...

Exploring the Caribbean

During our 10 years in the Caribbean, we spent a lot of time living and working in St.Maarten.  We did various jobs there, and always worked hard saving up the next lot of money to go sailing again.  For a year and a half I worked as Marketing Manager for St.Maarten's 12 Metre Regatta.  This is a tour company that had 5 famous America's Cup yachts, and would take tourists out racing.  They had the original Stars n Stripes boat that Dennis Conner had won the America's Cup with, as well as a couple of famous Canadian boats.  They would stage actual races around stunning Great Bay.  Here I am aboard Canada's True North IV.   After we had our...
